There are so many great locations for Southern Maine Family Portraits. This was a new one for me!
PHOTOGRAPHING A PHOTOGRAPHER
It’s the best feeling in the world when another photographer asks you to photograph them, or their wedding, or their family. It means they like your work and personality, and when you have access to hundreds of fellow photographers all over New England, that’s one hell of a compliment!
Chris and I often work together at weddings, so we know each other pretty well, but I had never had the chance to meet his family until now. All he ever talks about are his two kids, Gwen and David, and his wife Chrystn. It was so nice to finally meet them all! The kids are absolutely adorable, and I think Gwen might become a little photographer the way she always asks to take photos with her dad’s camera. She has such the little attitude of a tough, independent young girl, but still has that high pitch giggle when Chris was superman-ing her through the air for some photos. David is still a little wobbly on his feet, but the sweetest little guy.
THE WIGGLY BRIDGE
We decided to try a location that was new to both Chris and me, and I absolutely love it and have added it to my list of recommended places for photographs with my other clients! The Wiggly Bridge in York, Maine, has a picturesque walk on a little breakwater out to a (you guessed it!) wiggly bridge! The bridge actually wiggles and wobbles and bounces as you cross it, which was super fun for the kids to play around on. On the other side there are wooded walking paths and a little grassy area down an embankment where the light at the end of the day was absolutely stunning.
I MADE THEM CRY!!!
Once I delivered the photos to Chris and Chrystn, Chris contacted me and said that they both cried because I told the story of their perfect little family so well. Chrystn told me one photo of the four of them together is her favorite image ever taken of them. To get this kind of feedback is the most heart-warming and motivating thing I can think of. It’s why I do what I do. The awards at competition mean so little in comparison to someone I photograph telling me that they were so happy they were moved to tears, or that I made the process fun and easy and they will be coming back to have me photograph them in the future. Oh, it’s just the best feeling ever!!
Here’s to good friends, a great colleague, and a fantastic support system!
