Ryan and Becca were married at her family’s farm, Coppal House, in Lee, New Hampshire, on July 21st. Much of their wedding was DIY, although they decided that photography and music were very important to them, and I’m so glad that they appreciated the fact that my style fits their happy and bubbly personalities. They are both so laid back, funny, caring, and thoughtful people that laugh from their bellies and surround themselves with like-minded individuals. I just love this DIY farm wedding!!!
Ryan wore a suit for the day, and added a few great touches, including wooden monogrammed cufflinks, and, as you’ll notice in photos from later in the day, he also pulled out his cowboy hat! Becca grew up on this working farm, and every inch of it has meaning to her. She wore a simple white dress and opted for a floral crown as opposed to a veil or other hairpiece, which complemented the farm wedding vibe so well. Her dress was a simple zip to put on, but someone noticed a strap was sewn on twisted, so her mother put her sewing skills to use and they fixed the strap right there in the dining room.
Waiting just outside the room where Becca got dressed was her brother, who was there in place of their father, to walk her, barefooted, down the aisle within the hour. He wore the blue polyester suit that their father had worn at their parents’ wedding so many years before, and a red checked shirt to pull it all together.
As the ladies prepared for the ceremony by having a toast, the guys lined up, including one of the grooms best friends who also officiated the ceremony. The guests sat on covered hay bails, and the ceremony took place under an enormous oak tree, the aisle lined with Persian rugs.
The post-ceremony wedding party photos were some of the funniest I’ve photographed in a while. The wedding party was absolutely hilarious, and the feel they gave to the day was fantastic. Note the Dirty Dancing “lift” attempt by Becca and her sister. It didn’t quite work out, of course, but it sure set the tone for the rest of the afternoon. Well, that and chasing (and holding!) chickens for photos! Ha!!!
Coppal House Farm lends itself so perfectly to some unique photos. We roamed around in the hayloft, the horse stable, and the field of sunflowers, not to mention the sundrenched path to the cornfield on the property as well!
Lawn games, beer and wine, funny toasts, comfort food by Hunts Point, and music by the band Brandy, set the tone for one heck of a wild reception!
At the end of the night the place was hopping, and Ryan and Becca and I snuck away for a few photos in the asparagus rows, as well as some creatively lit images of Ryan and his friends smoking a celebratory cigar.
I’d love to work with this family again, and hope our paths cross again in some capacity. They are the kind of people who recharge you just by being around them. What a night!!!
xoxo
