Katie and Billy are two fun people who had the party of a lifetime at Granite Ridge Estate in Norway, Maine! I love photographing barn weddings, and specialize in them, whereas many photographers find a barn wedding to be a challenge to photograph.
Before the Ceremony
I love photographing the little details of the wedding, and this is something I usually do first thing when I arrive at a wedding. Kate had her rose gold jewelry laid out for me, and Bill wore a special watch. Plus, check out his rubber ducky socks! I love it!!!
They planned to meet each other for a first look just outside the amazing barn doors with the Granite Ridge logo in wrought iron behind them, and it couldn’t have been more perfect and special! We wandered the property a little and utilized the gorgeous scenic view on the ridge for a few photos alone before the wedding party joined in for photos as a group. I don’t even know where the electric razor came from, but while we were doing the wedding party photos, Katie pulled out the razor and started touching up Bill’s face! Everyone started laughing and I was sure to grab a few shots of such a fun and spontaneous moment.
A Ceremony in the Woods
The ceremony was cloudy, but no rain fell, and the couple lucked out with some pretty awesome light for their photos because of it. Billy’s father officiated the wedding, which was such an amazing personal touch, and there were a few times he had the entire group roaring with laughter as he talked about some points in the relationship of Katie and Billy.
Pops of Pink for Decor
The tables inside matched Katie’s bouquet beautifully, made mostly of greens and whites, but with pops of pastel and darker pinks. I loved the tablescapes for this barn wedding!
Their toasts were amazing and hilarious, and it was so fun to see a personal friend of mine and fellow photographer give one heck of a speech as Kate’s maid of honor.
Afterward, Kate danced with her father and Bill with his mother, and then the dance floor opened to one awesome party!
Cake on the Down Low
Toward the end of the night, the newlyweds slipped away from the dance floor to cut their cake and officially open up the dessert bar. They didn’t want the party to have to stop for this tradition of cutting the cake, and this is something I see more and more couples doing. I call it “Cake on the Down Low”.
As my second photographer and I were almost ready to pick up for the evening, we were able to arrange a bit of a celebration using champagne. Katie and Billy followed us outside, where it had started to rain, and held nothing back when shaking up and spraying two champagne bottles into the air…. and straight at the cameras, which was quite an accident but made for even more incredible photos, if you ask me, so I didn’t mind!
What a day! What a couple! And what a spectacular celebration for two amazing individuals!
