Sometimes as a wedding photographer I get to see some of the most amazing dresses, bouquets, venues, cakes, and tablescapes. And sometimes I get all of those things plus the added bonus of photographing a groom with a flair for fashion! This Samoset Resort wedding in Rockport, Maine, was so many levels of awesome I can’t even stand it! You absolutely have to read about all the little things that came together for Ashley and Rob on their wedding day.
ALL THE LITTLE THINGS THAT ADD SO MUCH
Rob and Ashley didn’t leave any leaf unturned when putting together the little details that would make their wedding special. Rob chose a maroon three-piece suit, a perfect fit for his old-world fashion sense, and had his name and the wedding date sewn inside. He even had a family heirloom or two to accessorize: a pocket watch, and a ring with a blue emerald in it. I thought this was an interesting tie-in with the blue emerald ring that Ashley was wearing on her right hand.
Ashley also wore another ring. A big fat ring with an elephant on it. Elephants are one of her favorite things, and she even has a tattoo of a train of elephants, so Rob decided to find socks with elephants on them to match the suit and bridesmaids dresses perfectly!
The colors of the day were maroons and deep greens, a palette I don’t get to see often, and I loved it! The bridal bouquet and boutonnieres were gorgeously crafted by Seasons Downeast Design.
A SAMOSET CEREMONY
Ashley and Rob took time out for a first look and photos alone before the ceremony and then had their wedding party join them for photos as well. This is such a smart choice in weddings these days because after the ceremony the couple can take time away for a while, get killer sunset photos, join their cocktail hour and have food and drinks and greet their guests, or whatever else they like. The day is so much less stressful when so many things aren’t being fit into a short time span.
The ceremony was fun and sweet, and timed just right so that immediately afterward they could scoot down to the breakwater and get some fun sunset photos taken!!!
PARTY PARTY PARTY
The reception was kicked off with introductions, followed by a few emotional toasts, and dinner. Rob danced with his mother and Ashley with her father, and then no time was wasted getting to the point where the dance floor opened for the night.
During the evening, Rob and Ashley took me aside for a couple photos of them cutting the cake, which they did not want announced. I call it “cake on the down low”. Ha! This cake was one of my favorite cakes this year. Not only was it beautiful, with cascading flowers, but check out the cool little penguins sitting on one side! Sugar Tree Cakes did an amazing job.
This wedding had some amazingly fun and friendly people, and I’m so happy that I got to know Rob and Ashley through the planning process. I wish them the happiest marriage!!!
