A Nautical Wedding at York Reading Room in Maine

Cait and Matt's Nautical Wedding at York Reading Room in Maine

Matt and Cait live in the Boston area, like so many of the couples I have the honor to photograph, but Caitlin grew up in Belgrade Lakes in Maine, so they wanted to come back to the coast of Maine for their wedding.  Many of the weddings I photograph have ties to Maine, and I love that the couples come back to their roots to celebrate such a big day in their lives.  Cait and Matt chose the York Reading Room for their wedding venue, and it couldn’t have been more perfect!

Matt loves to sail.  The ocean is where he belongs, so we made sure to incorporate some nautical elements into the photographs of his details, some of which were precious to his family.  His cufflinks were handed down by his grandfather, and his watch-chain was as well.  I love that he brought their doggie, Cooper, along for the wedding, too!  Cooper even got to be one of the groomsmen (groomsdog???)!

Matt and Cait are known for their silly sense of humor, and Cait’s facebook is riddled with photos of her in various sunglasses and wigs, making silly faces at fun events.  It was so fitting that Matt and the groomsmen each got their own pair of golden sunglasses, which wound up being worn all night on the dance floor at the reception as well!

Cait’s details were stunning.  Her dress was simple and elegant with beautiful lines of beading that accentuated her figure, and her grandmother’s ring was worn as well.  A cute updo with a flower in her hair was the perfect compliment to her chandelier earrings.

Matt and Cait chose to exchange letters to each other before they met on the cliffs overlooking the ocean for a first look together.

They had some private moments alone as I kept my distance, still capturing the emotions of the moment, and then we wandered the park and took some photos of them alone.

The ceremony was held in the park overlooking the ocean, on a platform built by Matt himself, including a beautiful frame with a floral arrangement in one corner, making them picture perfect.  I love that his parents got to escort him down the aisle.  What a proud moment for them!

As Cooper took a nap in the grass, the ceremony proceeded, including a hand tying, the sharing of a glass of wine, and two readings.

After the ceremony and photos of the family and wedding party, the party started inside the York Reading Room.  Even the dessert table was stunning, with handmade treats shaped like the Eiffel Tower, symbolic of where Matt proposed to Caitlin!

The band, Ripcord, kept the party at a high all night long, and nobody noticed when Matt and Cait walked to the beach with me for some sunset photos.  The tide was low, creating a reflection off the sand, and they were totally willing to walk in the sea-soaked sand in order to get some amazing photographs.

What a fantastic party, and what a celebration of the love of these two amazing people.
